The government of Peru plans to launch in 1Q17 the negotiations to establish a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India, reported Gestión on 20 December 2016, citing Peru Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations Edgar Vásquez.

Specifically, Vásquez noted Peru finalized the feasibility study of the FTA with India. Now, in the coming days, the Indian cabinet must approve the negotiations, which would start in 1Q17 with a first technical meeting.

Vásquez added that, at first, Peru's agroindustrial sector would be the one to benefit from an FTA with India, given the country's high consumption of fruits, vegetables, and legumes.

El gobierno de Perú planea comenzar en el primer trimestre de 2017 las negociaciones para establecer un Tratado de Libre Comercio (TLC) con la India, ha publicado Gestión el 20 de diciembre de 2016, citando al viceministro de Comercio Exterior de Perú, Edgar Vásquez.

En concreto, Vásquez ha señalado que ya ha finalizado el estudio de factibilidad del TLC con India. Ahora, en los próximos días, el gabinete indio debe aprobar las negociaciones, que comenzarían en el primer trimestre de 2017 con una primera reunión técnica.

Vásquez ha añadido que, en un primer momento, el sector agroindustrial peruano sería el que más sacaría provecho del TLC con India, dado que tiene un gran consumo de frutas, verduras y legumbres.
