Mexico and the United States sign agreement to open air markets

The secretaries of transport of Mexico and the United States, Gerardo Ruiz and Anthony Foxx, respectively, signed an agreement to open the countries' respective air markets, reported El Financiero on 18 December, 2015. Under the agreement, airlines of both countries will be able to operate routes without any restrictions. Currently, only two airlines from each country can operate a single route between Mexico and the US. The officials noted the agreement will provide greater connectivity and will increase tourism and trade. The agreement must now be ratified by the Mexican senate. On 14 December, it was reported there was a possibility of an air agreement between the countries (see related intel).

Los secretarios de transporte de México y Estados Unidos, Gerardo Ruiz y Anthony Foxx, respectivamente, han suscripto un acuerdo para abrir los respectivos mercados aéreos de ambos países, ha publicado El Financiero el 18 de diciembre de 2015. Con el acuerdo, las aerolíneas de los dos países tendrán la posibilidad de operar rutas sin restricción alguna. Actualmente, solo dos aerolíneas de cada país pueden operar una única ruta entre México y EE.UU. Los funcionarios han señalado que el acuerdo brindará más conectividad y aumentará el turismo y comercio. El acuerdo ahora debe ser ratificado por el senado mexicano. El 14 de diciembre se ha informado la posibilidad de un convenio aéreo entre los países (ver intel relacionado). |
