Avianca Holding (BVC:AVT; NYSE:AVH), a Panama-based holding of airlines Avianca and Taca, may be studying offers submitted by Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL), an Atlanta, US-based airline, United (NYSE:UAL), a Chicago, US-based airline, and Copa Airlines (NYSE: CPA), a Panama-based airline, reported The New York Times on 5 December 2016, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Specifically, the participation of Elliot, a US-based private equity firm, in the talks held in recent months to find a strategic partner for Avianca Holdings (see related intel), may have taken it to find out about the offers of groups interested in Avianca.

Meanwhile, United Airlines may have offered a USD-500m loan to Avianca potentially become one of its investors, Copa Airlines may have proposed a merger of more than USD 2bn, and Delta Airlines may have offered over USD 1bn in cash to buy most of the stake held by Synergy Group and the rest from Avianca.

On 6 December, a Special Committee of the Board of Avianca is expected to meet to decide whether to accept an offer or proceed with a new round of offers.

Avianca Holding (BVC:AVT; NYSE:AVH), holding panameño de las aerolíneas Avianca y Taca, estaría estudiando ofertas presentadas por Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL), aerolínea con sede en Atlanta, United (NYSE:UAL), con sede en Chicago, y Copa Holdings (NYSE:CPA), aerolínea panameña, según ha informado The New York Times el 5 de diciembre de 2016, citando a fuentes cercanas al asunto.

En concreto, la participación de Elliot, firma estadounidense de private equity, en la negociación del socio estratégico que está buscando Avianca Holdings en los últimos meses (ver Intels relacionados), lo habría llevado a conocer las ofertas de los grupos interesados en Avianca.

Por su parte, United Airlines habría ofrecido un préstamo de USD 500m a Avianca para ser potencialmente uno de sus inversionistas, Copa Airlines habría propuesto una fusión de más de USD 2.000m, y Delta Airlines habría ofrecido más de USD 1.000m en efectivo, para comprar la mayor parte del Grupo Synergy y el resto a Avianca.

Se espera que el 6 de diciembre se reúna un comité especial del directorio de Avianca para decidir si aceptar una oferta o proceder con una nueva ronda de ofertas.
