Universidade do Minho's general board approved, by a majority, to request authorization to the Portuguese Government to change its legal status to a foundation, as published by Econoómico on 7 September 2015, citing School's dean, António Cunha. The status change would increase management autonomy and could bring benefits when looking for alternative funding sources. Increasing School's management autonomy of management and facilitation in obtaining fund led the board to unanimously approve this measure.

O conselho geral da Universidade do Minho aprovou, por maioria absoluta, solicitar ao Governo de Portugal a mudança do regime jurídico de instituição à regime fundacional, segundo publicou o Económico no dia 07 de setembro de 2015, citando ao reitor da Universidade António Cunha. Com a mudança a instituição teria mais autonomia de gestão e poderia ser mais vantajoso na busca de fontes alternativas de financiamento. Aumento da autonomia de gestão e facilitação da obtenção de financiamento levam Conselho Geral a aprovar medida por maioria absoluta. |
