Telefónica (BME:TEF), a Spain-based broadband, land and mobile telephone services operator, is studying an Initial Public Offering (IPO) for its Mexico-based subsidiary Telefónica México, reported Reuters España on 11 November, 2015, citing the company's chief financial and corporate development officer, Ángel Vila. Vila noted the Mexican telecommunications market has taken off and keeps growing, which is why an IPO is an attractive prospect. In Mexico, Telefónica has 20% of the market quota, behind leader América Móvil (BMV:AMX), which holds 70%. It also competes with US-based AT&T (NYSE:T).
