| Synopsis |
|
Government of Argentina began consultations between airline American Jet and transport company Vía Bariloche, aiming to reach an agreement for a possible acquisition to reactivate operations of Argentina-based Sol Líneas Aéreas, as published by newspaper El Cronista on 19 January 2016. Due to the latest cessation of Sol Líneas Aéreas, the Ministry of Transport offered to acquire the airline held by American Jet and Via Bariloche. The government is looking for economic compensation for the cancellation of the codeshare contract and Aerolíneas Argentinas' subsidies, as well as the most recent exit of airline Air Nostrum, its Spanish partner (See related Intel). The Ministry also said that Sol Líneas Aéreas did not file for bankruptcy, but ceased its activities, so the potential sale process would be feasible from a legal standpoint.
