The seller group is led by Grupo Cemig and Neoenergia. The companies' goal is to take advantage of the recent interest of Chinese companies for energy assets in Brazil. According to the news, the bank Bradesco BBI will be one of the coordinators of the operation.

Os acionistas da Usina Hidrelétrica Belo Monte, vão começar nas próximas semanas um processo de venda da empresa, segundo publicou a Exame no dia 27 de janeiro de 2017. Entre os principais acionistas da usina estão as brasileiras o Grupo Cemig (BVMF:CMIG4, XCMIG, CIG.C), a Neoenergia (BVMF:GNAN3B), os fundos de pensão Petros e Funcef e a Eletrobras (BVMF:ELET6). O grupo de vendedores é liderado pelo Grupo Cemig e pela Neoenergia. O objetivo das empresas é aproveitar o recente interesse das empresas chinesas por ativos de energia no Brasil.
