Panamá could award Hitachi part of line 3 of the metro without tender

Panama’s government could award the electromechanical components of line 3 of Panama City’s metro to Japan-based Hitachi, reported La Prensa on 4 June, 2015, citing executive secretary of Metro de Panamá, Roberto Roy. According to Roy, only Hitachi is able to provide the large monorail needed for the project. The awarding of the project to Hitachi is part of an agreement between the two countries, under which Japan will offer Panama better financing terms than provided by banks or issuing debt. The rest of the project will be part of an international tender, noted vice-minister of economy, Iván Zarak.

El gobierno de Panamá podría adjudicar los componentes electromecánicos de la línea 3 del metro de la ciudad de Panamá a la japonesa Hitachi, ha publicado La Prensa el 4 de junio de 2015, citando al secretario ejecutivo de Metro de Panamá, Roberto Roy. Según Roy, el monorriel grande necesario para el proyecto solo lo tiene Hitachi. La adjudicación es parte de un acuerdo entre los gobiernos de los dos países, que estipula que Japón le otorgará a Panamá financiamiento más favorable que el que conseguiría de bancos o emitiendo deuda. El resto de la obra de la línea 3 será licitada internacionalmente, señaló el viceministro de economía, Iván Zarak. |
