Norwegian (Oslo Børs:NAS), a Bærum, Norway-based low-cost airline, and Ryanair (ISEQ:Ryan Air), a Dublin, Ireland-based airline, could be launching its operations in Chile, reported El Mercurio on 24 January 2017, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Though he did not want to anticipate the name and origin of the company, Chile's Secretary of the Civil Aeronautics Board (JAC) Jaime Binder noted in the coming weeks a new ultra-low-cost airline could announce the launch of its operations in the Chilean market.

According to a report from December 2016, IIndigo Partners, a US-based private equity firm, would seek to enter with a new airline to the country's ultra-low-cost market (see related intel).
