Egyptian entrepreneur Naguib Sawiris would be interested in investing in Oi (BVMF:OIBR4;NYSE:TNE), as published by Valor Econômico on 21 June 2016, citing Sawiris.

According to the news, Naguib Sawiris said tha Oi has great potential, if debt is restructured and the company receives a capital increase and a strong business plan.

"Oi needs a shareholder with a strong background in telecommunications to solve its operational problems, besides the financial ones", said Sawiris.

Also according to the news, Russian investor Mikhail Fridman may also be interest in acquiring Oi. Mikhail Fridman may have submitted a USD 4bn proposal, in February 2016, conditional to a merger with Tim, but he ended up withdrawing from the run.

Oi has filed for bankruptcy, after trying unsuccessfully to reach an agreement with creditors, following a series of mergers and management changes that failed to help the company to achieve a sound financial position (see related intel).

De acordo com a notícia, Naguib Sawiris, que disse que a Oi tem um grande potencial, desde que sua dívida seja reestruturada e a empresa receba um aumento de capital e um forte plano industrial.

“A Oi precisa de um acionista com forte histórico em telecomunicações para resolver seus problemas operacionais, além dos financeiros”, disse Sawiris.

Ainda de acordo com a notícia, o investidor russo Mikhail Fridman também teria interessa em adquirir a Oi. Mikhail Fridman teria feito, em fevereiro de 2016, uma proposta pela companhia de USD 4 bi, com a condição de que uma fusão com a Tim acontecesse, mas acabou desistindo do negócio.
