Synopsis

The governments of Mexico and the European Union will seek to update their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to eliminate more trade barriers and open the markets more effectively, reported El Economista on 30 May, 2016, citing European Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmström.

Meanwhile, Mexico's finance secretary, Ildenfonso Guajardo Villarreal, noted the update of the agreement would benefit both the Mexican agro-industrial sector and the financial and service industries of the EU.

The first round of negotiations is expected to be held in June.

Los gobiernos de México y de la Unión Europea buscarán actualizar su Tratado de Libre Comercio (TLC) para eliminar más barreras comerciales y abrir de manera más efectiva los mercados, ha publicado El Economista el 30 de mayo de 2016, citando a la comisionada de comercio de la UE, Cecilia Malmström.

Por su parte, el secretario de economía de México, Ildenfonso Guajardo Villarreal, ha señalado que la actualización del tratado beneficiará tanto al sector agroindustrial mexicano como a las industrias financieras y de servicios de la UE.

La primera ronda de negociaciones está prevista para junio.
