The Institut Català de Finances (ICF), a Spain-based state-owned financial institution, will change its policy to have the option of acquiring small stakes in the start-ups it finances, reported Expansión on 26 December 2016.

ICF will not invest more money but will allocate 10% of its global investment to the acquisition of shares. The entity aims to obtain yields if the start-up is sold with capital gains.

Meanwhile, ICF will expand the profile of those investors with whom it co-invests. Up to now, the entity was limited to business angel networks, but plans to include start-up accelerators, venture builders, and seed capital funds.

El Institut Català de Finances (ICF), entidad financiera estatal española, cambiará su política para tener la opción de adquirir pequeñas participaciones accionariales de las start-up a las que financia, según ha informado Expansión el 26 de diciembre de 2016.

El ICF no invertirá más dinero, sino que destinará un 10% de la inversión global a la adquisición de acciones. El objetivo es la obtención de rendimientos en caso de que las start-up lleguen a venderse con plusvalías.

Por otro lado, el ICF ampliará el perfil de los inversores con los que realiza las coinversiones. Hasta el momento, la entidad se limitaba a redes de business angels, pero pretende incluir aceleradoras de start up, venture builder y fondos de capital semilla.
