Government of Mozambique starts the privatization of national highways

Government of Mozambique intends to offer parts of the national highway network to private concessionaires, until the end of this year, as stated by the Minister of Public Works, Cadmiel Muthemba. In January 2014, the Minister announced that highways Matola-Boane, Marracuene-Lindela, Nampula-Nacala, Vanduzi-Changara and Monapo-Island of Mozambique were identified as being the most important ones to be privatized in order to guarantee their proper maintenance. Up until now, only one of these has been concessioned and subject to tolls, highway Maputo-South Africa or National 4, operated by South Africa-based Trans Africa Concessions (TRAC).

O governo moçambicano pretende entregar troços da rede nacional de estradas a concessões a privados, até ao final do ano, reafirmou o ministro das Obras Públicas, Cadmiel Muthemba. Em Janeiro passado o ministro anunciou que os troços Matola-Boane, Marracuene-Lindela, Nampula-Nacala, Vanduzi-Changara e Monapo-Ilha de Moçambique foram identificados como sendo prioritários para passarem para a gestão privada a fim de se poder garantir a sua manutenção. Até ao momento apenas um troço foi concessionado e sujeito a portagens, a estrada Maputo-África do Sul ou Nacional 4, operada pela empresa sul-africana Trans Africa Concessions (TRAC). |
