Glencore (LON:GLEN), a Switzerland-based mining company, could acquire the 33.3% stake held by Anglo American (LSE:AAL) in Colombia-based mining company Cerrejón, where it already owns another third, reported Bloomberg on 1 March, 2016, citing Glencore CEO, Ivan Glasenberg.

Should Anglo American carry out the sale of its stake, both Glencore and Australia-based BHP Billiton (ASX:BHP), which holds the remaining 33.3% in Cerrejón, have a right to acquire the UK-based company's percentage, noted Glasenberg. The executive added Glencore would prefer to acquire the stake jointly with BHP.

Lastly, Glasenberg explained that Glencore analyzes all merger and acquisition opportunities that may arise, as long as the transactions do not affect the company's balance. He added Cerrejón is an opportunity it won't overlook if it gets the right price.

Cerrejón, based in Bogota, is a coal mining company.

Glencore (LON:GLEN), minera suiza, podría comprar la participación de 33,3% de la minera británica Anglo American (LSE:AAL) en la colombiana Cerrejón, donde ya es dueña de otro tercio, según ha informado la agencia Bloomberg el 1 de marzo de 2016, citando al CEO de Glencore, Ivan Glasenberg.

Si Anglo American realiza la venta de su participación, tanto Glencore como la australiana BHP Billiton (ASX:BHP), que es dueña del 33.3% restante de Cerrejón, tienen derecho a adquirir el porcentaje de la británica, ha señalado Glasenberg. El ejecutivo ha añadido que Glencore preferiría adquirir la participación conjuntamente con BHP.

Por último, Glasenberg ha explicado que Glencore analiza todas las oportunidades de adquisición y fusión que se le presentan, siempre y cuando las transacciones no afecten el balance de la empresa. Ha agregado que Cerrejón es una oportunidad que no dejará pasar si consigue el precio adecuado.

Cerrejón, con sede en Bogotá, es una minera de carbón.
