Fundador da Azul Linhas Aéreas poderia participar na privatização da TAP

Intel ID : 225161
Synopsis

The founder of Brazilian airline Azul Linhas Aéreas, David Neeleman, could participate in the new privatization process of Portuguese state-owned airline, TAP Air Portugal, reported Estadão on 13 May, 2015.

The Portuguese government will receive proposals until 15 May and hopes that both Neeleman and the Efromovich brothers, owners of Colombian airline Avianca, present offers.

Neeleman confirmed he’s evaluating the acquisition, but didn’t commit to presenting an offer, given that it’s a challenging business, the report stated citing the Azul CEO.

If he does participate, Neeleman would seek backing from private equity funds, as he did when he founded Azul, the report stated.

Synergy Group, Avianca’s holding company, attempted to buy TAP in 2012, but the transaction failed (see related transaction). However, Germán Efromovich has once again expressed his interest in the airline.
