O presidente da Guiné Equatorial, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, propôs a criação de uma parceria para explorar o petróleo existente na fronteira marítima entre Guiné Equatorial e São Tomé e Príncipe, segundo publicou o Macahub no dia 19 de outubro de 2015, citando o próprio presidente.

Os países vão rever o acordo de limitação da fronteira marítima, assinado quando se iniciou a prospecção petrolífera na zona em questão e poderiam constituir uma empresa mista para dividir o produto da exploração desta região.
