Synopsis |
The government of Ecuador seeks to attract investment from foreign and domestic mining companies to stimulate the country's emerging mining industry and reduce its dependence on oil, reported Bloomberg on 2 December, 2015, citing minister of mines, Javier Cordova. In January 2016, the government will begin offering new mining concessions and some potential bidders could be UK-based Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO), with which Cordova met in April 2015, Australia-based SolGold (LSE:SOLG), Canada-based Odin Mining and Exploration, and Ecuador-based Cornerstone Ecuador. Even though metal prices are not the best at the moment to start mining ventures, Ecuador has passed multiple legal and tax reforms to attract investors, the report stated.
