Synopsis

Government of Costa Rica approved within its legislation framework the Treaty for Promotion and Protection of Investments with China, as reported by Latin American and Caribbean Economic System on 30 March 2016, citing the Costa Rica Minister of Foreign Trade, Alexander Mora.

Specifically, Mora said the Treaty with China will increase investment flow with Costa Rica, especially companies with high added value that promote productive diversification, technology transfer and chains.

The investment treaty was signed by both countries in 2007, but it was not until 28 March 2016 that it was approved by the Costa Rican Congress on a second and final vote, with 35 votes in favor and nine against, having 44 of the 57 deputies present.

El Gobierno de Costa Rica ha aprobado en el marco legislativo el Tratado de Promoción y Protección de Inversiones con China, según ha informado el Sistema Económico Latinoamericano y del Caribe el 30 de marzo de 2016, citando al ministro costarricense de Comercio Exterior, Alexander Mora.

En concreto, el ministro Mora ha asegurado que el Tratado con China permitirá incrementar los flujos de inversión del gigante asiático con Costa Rica, especialmente de empresas de alto valor agregado que promuevan la diversificación productiva, la transferencia tecnológica y los encadenamientos.

El tratado de inversiones ha sido firmado por ambos países en el 2007, pero hasta el 28 de marzo de 2016 no ha sido aprobado por el Congreso costarricense en segunda y definitiva votación, con 35 votos a favor y nueve en contra, con 44 diputados presentes de los 57 que integran el legislativo.
