Avianca - Aerovías del Continente Americano, a Colombia-based airline, is said to have delayed its entry into Argentina, originally planned for the end of 2016 (see related intel), reported La Nación on 11 August 2016, citing a company source. According to the report, the airline did not submit the necessary documents to launch operations before regulator Administración Nacional de Aviación Civil (ANAC) and the ministry of transport, among others. The reasons for the delay might be various: the strong presence in the domestic flight market of state-owned airline Aerolíneas Argentinas, with which Avianca does not seek to compete; the costs of agreements with the unions; airport costs and land service costs, the report stated. Avianca's plan was to launch flights in Argentina with Macair Jet, an Argentina-based airline acquired in February by a subsidiary of the Colombia-based company (see related transaction), to reach a fleet of 18 airplanes by 2018.

El plan de Avianca era comenzar a volar en Argentina con Macair Jet, aerolínea argentina adquirida en febrero por una filial de la colombiana (ver transacción relacionada), para llegar a una flota de 18 aviones para 2018. |
