BRAZIL
Last month, Brazilian transactional market registered a large number of deals this year. In June this activity continued. The number of deals recorded, both announced and closed, was larger than the average of 2012's first term. Acquisitions by foreign companies in Brazil were similar to previous month; United States registered the largest number of deals. The Technology and Telecoms sector was the most active, followed by Services and Distribution. Petrobras made one of the largest transactions of the month. It signed an acquisition agreement of a 50% stake in Pasadena Refining System, a USA-based company. The deal value was BRL 1.705m. Highlights include the merger conclusion between TAM and Lan Airlines, which was announced in August 2010. In addition, Vinci Partners acquired a 70% stake in Cecrisa, for BRL 250m.

              

LATIN AMERICA
In June, Latin American transactional market was more dynamic than in May. Mexico registered the largest number of deals, followed by Argentina and Chile. Highlights include an agreement signed by AB Inbev, a Beligium-based beer manufacturer, to acquire a 50% stake in Grupo Modelo, a Mexico-based manufacturer of famous Coronita beer. The deal value was USD 20,100m. Furthermore, América Móvil finalised an acquisition of a 13.2% stake in Dutch company KPN, for USD 3,278m. With this deal América Móvil increases its stake to 23% in the company's share capital. In addition, Chile-based CorpBanca concluded the acquisition of Banco Santander (Colombia), for USD 1,229m.
