BRAZIL
The Brazilian transactional market, in August, was more dynamic than in previous months, and inferior to first semester's average. Once again, the United States was the country with the largest number of acquisitions in Brazil, followed by Canada with two registered deals. The largest deal was Suzano Papel e Celulose's acquisition of a 50% stake in Conpacel, for BRL 1,450bn. Internet was the most active subsector, which included cross-border deals and private equity investments. Highlights include Light's acquisition, through its subsidiary Light Energia, of a 51% stake in Guanhães Energia, for BRL 26.59m. Entrepreneur Abilio Diniz sold a 2.4% stake in Wilkes Participações, holding company of Grupo Pão de Açucar, for USD 10.5m.

LATIN AMERICA
The Latin America transactional market activity decreased in August, with some 54 registered deals. Mexico was again the most active country, followed by Chile and Colombia. Highlights include the acquisition by UK-based company Diageo of José Cuervo, a Mexico-based manufacturer of tequila. The deal value was USD 3,000m. Furthermore, Codelco signed an agreement with USA-based company Anglo American upon some months of discussions, to acquire a 24.5% stake in Anglo American Sur, its subsidiary. The deal value was USD 1,700m.
