PayPal, a US-based operator of an online payment platform, forged two partnerships to provide a digital wallet service with mobile operators América Móvil (BMV:AMX), based in Mexico, and Vodafone (LSE/NASDAQ:VOD), based in the United Kingdom, reported Bloomberg on 22 February, 2016, citing PayPal CEO, Dan Schulman.

With the partnership, PayPal seeks to diversify its business beyond e-commerce to become a digital wallet platform that allows users to send money abroad and pay in stores by scanning their smartphones.

The alliance with América Móvil entails the creation of digital wallets for the company's 140 million Telcel and Claro customers in Mexico and Brazil; while the alliance with Vodafone in Europe would allow Android users to use their smartphones to make payments in Visa terminals, initially in Spain and in other markets later this year.
