Ningbo Shanshan (SSE:600884), a China-based manufacturer of garments and lithium battery materials, is said to be interested in acquiring over 30% of Chile-based SQM (BCS:SQM-A, SQM-B; NYSE:SQM), reported Reuters Latin America on 25 August 2016, citing two sources familiar with the matter. According to the report, Ningbo Shanshan seeks to acquire the 29.97% stake of Chilean businessman Julio Ponce in SQM, a chemical and mining company, as well as part of the indirect stake held by Sociedad de Inversiones Pampa Calichera (BCS:CALICH), a Chile-based company put on the block by Sociedad de Inversiones Oro Blanco (BCS:ORO BLANCO). Oro Blanco announced the sale of 88.9% of Pampa Calichera, which in turn holds around 23% of SQM, in December 2015 (see related intel). Previously, other companies have shown their interest in SQM: Israel-based ICL (see related intel), Canada-based Potash Corp (NYSE/TSX:POT), and China-based Citic Clsa Capital Markets.

Según lo publicado, Ningbo Shanshan buscaría adquirir la participación directa del 29,97% del empresario chileno Julio Ponce Lerou en SQM, empresa química y minera, además de parte de la participación indirecta que mantiene Sociedad de Inversiones Pampa Calichera (BCS:CALICH), empresa chilena que ha sido puesta a la venta por Sociedad de Inversiones Oro Blanco (BCS:ORO BLANCO). Oro Blanco ha anunciado la venta del 88,9% de Pampa Calichera, que a su vez tiene alrededor del 23% de SQM, en diciembre de 2015 (ver intel relacionado).
