La Borra del Café, a Guadalajara, Mexico-based coffee shops operating company, plans to arrive in Costa Rica in 2016, reported El Financiero on 23 September, 2015, citing managing director, León Reffeger. Reffeger noted the company is in talks with local investors to enter the country under a franchise model, but added if the transaction doesn't materialize, the company itself will invest in the foray. La Borra del Café wants to land in Costa Rica before the end of 2016 as a master franchise, to continue expansion to other regions of Latin America from there. This would be the brand's first foray outside Mexico, where it already operates 15 shops.
