Intel ID : 231143
Synopsis

The trading companies held by US-based Cargill and Bunge (NYSE:BG), France-based Louis Dreyfus and Brazil-based Amaggi through a consortium with business structuring company EDLP Estação da Luz Participações, submitted an Expression of Interest Proposal to the Government of Brazil for the construction of a railway stretch between Sinop, in Mato Grosso, and Miritituba in Pará, as published by Valor on 5 November 2015.

The railroad, which has consortium's name "Ferrogrão", was included in the second phase of the investment program in logistics and has an estimated cost of BRL 11.5bn, to be 70% financed by BNDES.

This project is a railway stretch of 930 km with a capacity to transport 30 million tons of grain a year, mostly soybeans and corn, from Mato Grosso to ports in the North of Brazil. For the agribusiness, the estimated reduction in transportation cost is approximately 40%.

According to the news, the consortium's expectation is that the document will be published in the first semester of 2016. Should the concession take place in 2016, the railroad would be operational in five to seven year-period, which means 2022/23.
