Carlos Costa, Governor of Banco de Portugal, announced the existence of several banks interested in entering Banco Espírito Santo's share capital. Spain-based Banco Santander is one of the candidates. Millennium BCP and Banco BPI could also be studying this possibility. El Banco de Portugal ha hecho público que existen varios interesados en entrar en el accionariado de la financiera portuguesa Banco Espírito Santo. Entre ellos, se encuentra la financiera española Banco Santander, así como Millennium BCP y Banco BPI. Para Banco Santander, el objetivo sería crecer en el mercado portugués aprovechando el contexto de reestructuración financiera que atraviesa la entidad lusa.
