Glencore (LSE:GLEN), a Switzerland-based company from the minerals sector, is said to have abandoned the sale of Chilean mine Lomas Bayas, reported Reuters on 11 August 2016, citing source familiar with the matter. According to the report, the decision was motivated by the lack of attractive bids for the asset, which Glencore hoped to sell in USD 500m. Glencore launched the sale of Lomas Bayas in October 2015 in an effort to reduce debt and, since then, received the interest of different bidders (see related intel). The company is said to be in a stronger situation now and not willing to sell the asset at any price, the report stated. |
