In the first quarter of 2013, the Brazilian transactional market had a deal volume of R$ 17bn, compared to R$ 52.8bn in the same period last year. 166 deals were registered this quarter, which corresponds to 21% less than in the first quarter of 2012. Approximately 33.7% of all deals registered had a deal value below R$ 200m, totaling some R$ 3.9bn. In the transactions with deal value above R$ 500m, the total deal volume was R$ 8.9bn, compared to R$ 48.8bn recorded in the same period last year. This quarter's largest deal was UnitedHealth's takeover offer to acquire all shares of Amil in circulation, to cancel its registration as a public company. The deal value may reach R$ 2.87bn. Regarding capital markets, this first quarter 2 IPO's have been registered with a total deal volume of R$ 514.5m. In addition, there are six deals in pipeline; the one by Smiles is the largest, with an estimated value of R$ 898.5m.
